About

Noel Cho, LMFT, LPC

As people, we are always looking for safety and security in relationships.  However, we can encounter difficulties when that felt sense of safety and security is missing.

Many times, we try to use different coping mechanisms to help us regain that sense of safety.  Sometimes those skills are helpful and effective.  Sometimes the skills we used in the past to protect ourselves are no longer useful and may in fact become hindrances to us experiencing emotional connection in the present.

I view my role as a helper to walk alongside you on the path to self-discovery, understanding, and healing.

Approach

For specific interventions, I use an integrative approach with therapies that are rooted in Attachment Theory.

Intimacy Therapy

Intimacy Therapy uses Biblical principles to build emotional connection and secure attachment in relationships beginning with our relationship with God.  Together, we will try new ways of experiencing scripture rather than just having head knowledge.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT focuses on the role emotions play in impacting our thought patterns and behaviors.  It is the interplay between actions and reactions that keep us stuck in a negative cycle.  You will be encouraged to gain insight into your own emotions as well as a better understanding for your partner, children and other significant relationships.

Emotional Transformation Therapy® (ETT)

ETT uses color and/or light for precise visual brain stimulation.  When light enters the eyes, it is converted into neural impulses that travel throughout the brain where it impacts, not only vision but brain mechanisms that control emotions, thoughts, physiology, and spiritual states.  By using precise wavelengths of light (color) during interpersonal processes, the exact parts of the brain responsible for disturbances can be impacted.  This makes it possible to achieve rapid outcomes for alleviating psychological and physical distress.

The Process

The process begins with understanding your story, how you got to where you are today.  We will explore the challenges that you are currently struggling with as well as your current environment and relationships.

As we explore your story, you may find new insight about yourself and your previous experiences that contribute to internal messages and responses that continue to repeat in your life today.  The healing process examines where those messages come from, comforting the hurt and creating a new message.

Individual Counseling

In individual counseling, we will work together to investigate how your attachment style was developed and whether you are currently being impacted by old negative messages about self, relationships or the world.  We will explore the validity of those old messages, soothe old wounds and enhance the strength and resilience you already possess to help you achieve your "best self".  The goal will be for you to experience more joy and emotional connection in the relationships most important to you.

Couples Counseling

We will focus on the dynamics of the relationship and identify the cycle that your relationship gets stuck in.  Together, we will explore the emotions that trigger reactions, consider different perspectives and create new experiences in order to achieve a different outcome.  Your partner is not the problem, it is the cycle that causes you to be stuck.

Insurance

Whether you choose to visit my private counseling practice or another, please consider carefully the fact that insurance companies require mental health professionals to assign a psychiatric diagnosis code that becomes part of your permanent health record.  As a result, there may be impact to future employment, military entrance, life insurance, etc.  Please consider your decision to utilize insurance carefully.

In many cases, counseling services can be covered by insurance if your plan pays for out-of-network service.  I can provide you with the appropriate documentation to turn in to your insurance provider for reimbursement as an out-of-network provider should you choose to do so. Most plans provide this coverage after you have met a stated deductible. Please consult your plan to determine benefits.
